Restorative circles allow us to respond to incidents of moderate to serious harm in schools such as bullying, racial or sexual comments, patterns of disruptive behavior, stealing, fighting, and violence by bringing together the group of people impacted. In order for a school to take a restorative approach to resolve conflict and repair harm, they need a fair and safe process to follow that is predictable for all students and staff in the school.
The success of your circle will hinge on how thoroughly you prepare the participants. This PREP WORK Guide outlines the steps for someone trained in Restorative Practices to prepare for a Restorative Circle to address the issue or incident that occurred. It is advised that the person(s) who prep participants are also facilitating the circle.
