This is a 2-part circle in which you address the issue with the class and in 1 to 2 weeks check back to see how things are going. As a general practice, most classroom circles should be focused on community building and regulation. Until a deeper level of trust is established within the classroom it isn't recommended to use classroom circles directly for harm repair or more vulnerable topics. When students are treating each other unkindly, it is recommended that you FIRST hold a smaller circle with only the students involved to repair relationships and prevent shaming. The focus of a classroom circle should be "unmet needs" rather than "harm." The following script is an example of a topic that addresses ‘unmet needs’ and feels universal to the group without targeting one student.
